21 Mar The Guild of Master Craftsmen
The Guild of Master Craftsman is a tradition which originated in Medieval Europe.
Merchant guilds – associations of international trades, were powerful in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, but lost their ascendancy with the rise of the craft guilds associations of master craftsmen, journeymen, apprentices and the various trades connected with a particular skill or craft.
In 1992, the College of Arms in London awarded a coat of arms of The Guild of Master Craftsmen. Designed by heraldic expert Peter Greenhill to reflect the many categories of guild membership, it features: three escutcheons (shields) to represent creativity and artists. A pair of compasses opened in chevron for construction and building and a dovetail to represent woodworking and joinery.
An aspiring master would have to pass through the career chain from being an Apprentice to a Journeyman before he could be elected to become a Master Craftsman.
Today, Imaginators embrace all these escutcheons within our business. Indeed, many of our experienced and knowledgeable team have served under a Journeyman as an Apprentice where they learned their trade and skill to pass on to others.
Historically, a Master Craftsman, sometimes called only Master or Grandmaster, was a member of a guild. The title survives as the highest professional qualification in creative and craft industries.
The Guild of Master Craftsmen is one of the UK’s most established associations.
Whatever their craft, skill or profession, members of The Guild of Master Craftsmen are thoroughly assessed to earn the right to be called Master Craftsmen. Once accepted, they are required to maintain The Guild’s aims and objectives in order to remain a member.
The guild recognises and promotes creativity, skill, integrity and excellence to discerning individuals and businesses and is an organisation devoted to the promotion of excellence and the engendering of craftsmanship.
Imaginators assessment involved seeking counsel with five business across multiple industries which Imaginators service including film, television, media and entertainment.
The Guild of Master Craftsman recognise these creative industries and Imaginators as a business which strives to achieve exceptional standards.
Imaginators were honoured to be elected and accepted into the Guild of Master Craftsman – a wonderful acknowledgment of our creativity and skill.
