30 Sep Rich Mix Culture Changing City Community Mural
Imaginators are excited to been involved in our second collaborative public artwork with Paint the Change, titled Culture for a Changing City Community Mural and installed at Rich Mix, London.
Rich Mix welcome the communities of the world in East London to create, enjoy and share culture. Open since 2006, they are a charity that connects some of the city’s most adventurous and diverse audiences to a vital, exciting, and ambitious programme of contemporary culture. Rooted in the city but open to the world, we champion diversity in everything we do.
As London emerges from the pandemic, for the past few months we’ve been working with Paint the Change, long-term partner Halima Khanom and community groups to create a new mural on the front of the Rich Mix building.
Its aim? To welcome the community back and celebrate the local area as we come out of lockdown, by reflecting on the communities and people that make up the London borough of Tower Hamlets.
Paint the Change is a global street art project for social justice who believe that public art can play a powerful role in stimulating discussions around urgent social issues. A mural is not just a work of art: it becomes a social and digital event and a focus for dialogue and progress.
Imaginators worked closely with the artist to produce a giant and vibrant interpretation of images captured from the local community. Printed using a specialist vinyl, every tile was uniquely identified to ensure a smooth installation. Learn about the original ‘200 Nationalities 1 NHS Mural’ here.
