09 Nov Imaginators – Finalist at Digital Print Awards 2017
Imaginators were nominated as a wide format and superwide format digital print finalist at the recent Digital Print Awards 2017 held at the prestigious Grosvenor Square Marriott Hotel in Mayfair, London.
Imaginators were honoured to be nominated for our music festival branding with Mumford & Sons UK Tour which included project management and print production
Latitude and Longitude are three day music Festivals held in Suffolk and Stradbally, Laois Southern Ireland held the third weekend of July each year. The Festivals are linked, with the same artists performing across both sites over the weekend. The Festivals comprise elements of music, theatre, art, and literature being enjoyed by a combined audience of some 280,000 people.
Imaginators were tasked with concept, design and production of two sets of giant printed stage scrim graphics for the iconic Latitude and Longitude Festivals. The visual strength of branding and quality of print production was stressed as being very important. Due to the co-hosting on main stage this would require an overnight change of stage graphics from Latitude/Longitude Festival to Gentlemen of The Road and then the following night a change back to the generic festival branding. All of which could be changed over-night in just 8 working hours for which print production and installation method were crucial.
Naturally the main stage is the centre of attention when hosting global music artists. Both of the Festivals and Gentlemen of The Road have very strong and different identities which needed to be carried across the main stage branding. The quality of image required would involve the use of solid and non-air permeable materials which in turn needed to incorporate rigid controls due to potential safety issues in windy conditions. Imaginators have worked for many years to develop innovative methods of designing and providing printed stage scrims for these iconic events seen by the world.
Digitally printed scrims were designed in just three large sections plus two small truss covers per design. Given the size and nature of the finishing graphics it became obvious that all printed scrims could not be removed and then replaced in just the 8 night working hours which were available between show days. Festival stage scrims are generally held in place by the use of flexible fixings direct to the stage truss. Overlaying one set immediately in front of the other was discounted as printed scrims would not lay flat and install to the same common truss via flexible fixings which would look unsightly and could not be achieved in the time available.
Our client commented “As one of the worlds largest global music festival promotion groups, we’ve worked with Imaginators for almost 15 years. On all of the occasions that we have worked with Imaginators to print our stage graphics, we have never been let down by the willingness of the Imaginators team to get every detail correct. This translates to all aspects of their work, from template design, manufacture and install. Their work shows a deep and passionate understanding of branding, design, large format digital printing and installation, with no detail overlooked in any part of the process.” and continued “We have often called upon them at the last minute, and they have never failed to deliver to the same exacting standards. There is no one else we would trust or rely on for what is an important part of our stage design. Imaginators knowledge and understanding of printing and the quality they provide is quite exceptional. The finished result is quite spectacular”.
