23 Jan Imaginators celebrate 40 Years of business and banking with HSBC Canary Wharf

Back in 1976 Swan Graphics Limited was formed in the garage of the family home by Mr. Dennis Tydeman providing a lithographic service to the printing industry specialising in large format projected films and plates to specialist printers in the East End of London.

As the business grew, the company moved to Hackney East London and even larger, more specialist equipment was purchased.

With the advances in technology, the company invested heavily in the worlds first installation of a Dainippon Screen SG777 drum scanner. Mark and Matthew Tydeman joined the business.

Soon postscript arrived and the scanners we converted to Imagesetters to provide the largest output devices in the UK capable of imaging high resolution films to 200# to a size of 67×47″ – a size previously not possible and consequently carving a niche for the business to become the leading supplier of films to the display, POS, packaging and cartographic industry.

The original imagesetter was later joined by two more devices making Swan Graphics to only company in the world to operate three devices.

Later computer plate technology had advanced and a Scitex VLF platesetter was installed.

At this time, Swan Graphics had invested heavily in large format digital inkjet and in 1998 a NUR Blueboard HiQ 5m wide press was installed when and the offices moved from East London to a purpose built facility in the Essex countryside. To reflect this new stage of growth into new markets, the business became known as Imaginators to provide large format digital to London, Essex, Hertfordshire, Surrey, Kent, Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire before expanding our operations to the rest of the UK and Europe.

Later 3.2m inkjet presses were added together with HP Scitex 5m and 3.2m Flatbed Hybrid presses before a series of investments in the very latest high resolution wide and superwide Durst inkjet presses.

In 2016, Imaginators celebrated 40 years of banking with HSBC and 40 years of business success in the printing industry which was marked by a celebratory dinner at the global headquarters of HSBC Bank in Canary Wharf, London with the Directors of both Imaginators and HSBC Bank in attendance.
