04 Mar Bohemian Rhapsody Movie Production
Bohemian Rhapsody is a foot-stomping celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury.
Freddie defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet. The film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound. They reach unparalleled success, but in an unexpected turn Freddie, surrounded by darker influences, shuns Queen in pursuit of his solo career.
With its reputation for event and festival branding, Imaginators were sought out and approached by Twentieth Century Fox to assist with bringing the story of Queen, Freddie Mercury and Live Aid to the big screen. For filming, a set of the iconic 1985 Wembley Live Aid stage was constructed on a giant film set in Hertfordshire which was later used in post-production and green screen CGI.
Imaginators were tasked with replicating the stage branding to look as close as possible to the 1985 original. This included stage scrims, backdrops and Front of House branding. Following extensive research, it was discovered that the original stage scrims were hand painted with brush/rollers onto a Sharkstooth fabric at Wembley the day before the concert. Sharkstooth is a very unstable material particularly when absorbing large areas of paint.
Following large format print trials on various substrates, Imaginators unique Acoustic Mesh product was selected which delivers an excellent print surface and combines strength and stability. Working from a basic design the Imaginators studio distorted the images and added texture to reproduce the absorbed paint effect.
Bohemian Rhapsody received its World Premiere in London in October 2018 with Imaginators in attendance for the red-carpet event as a vital part of the production team behind the making of this historic story. The stage branding was in shot for a significant period in the film and the final results were indeed impressive. Imaginators brought its knowledge and understanding of the music festival industry and stage branding to the big screen.
Imaginators experience and attention to detail bring a quirky Event Branding entry to the Festival Supplier Awards 2019 and are a testament to the service Imaginators provide to the music, festival and entertainment industry.
The project was oversee by Imaginators in-house Project Management team including initial consultations, feasibility studies and photographic trials in advance of filming.
Not a simple task given the exacting detail required by Twentieth Century Fox and their insistence everything should be an exact replica of the original 1985 event.
