Regarded as one of London’s best loved spaces, the courtyard at Somerset House has been reimagined by Yinka Ilori, one of the most in demand figures working in design and has transformed the courtyard into a joyful spectacle of colour, sound and energy to welcome visitors back to Somerset House for DODGE Festival 2021 – a thrilling new open-air experience featuring bold art installations.

Imaginators were engaged to transform the courtyard and specifically the temporary structure surrounding the Statue of George III – a Grade 1 listed bronze sculpture erected within the famous quadrangle of Somerset House in 1778.

The temporary scaffold structure was necessary to enable cleaning of the sculpture – to hide what would then become an eyesore, Imaginators installed a subframe onto which a full graphic wrap was installed.

The client was keen to work with Imaginators expanding range of environmental materials and a non-PVC material, perfect for outdoor use was selected. The graphic wrap itself was installed as two sections to create a perfectly smooth finish to become the perfect canvas for Yinka Ilori’s vivid art.

Installed in just one day, the graphic wrap remained in place for the duration of the event and maintenance works to reveal the stunning statue cleaned from years on ageing.
